On Monday a committee composed of the Bureau of Customs, and the Departments of Environment and Natural Resources, Foreign Affairs, and Justice, agreed to implement the ruling by Manila Justice of the Peace Tita Bughao-Alisuag ordering the re-export of fifty 40-foot boxes of garbage again to Canada at the price of Chronic Plastics, Inc., the importer.
In 2013 and 2014, a complete of 103 delivery boxes of largely residual household garbage declared as scrap plastics for recycling have been illegally despatched to the Philippines from Canada. In 2015, rubbish from 26 of those containers was unlawfully dumped on a private landfill in Tarlac, infuriating provincial officers and residents.
